Barbora Chalupová is a director and screenwriter, a long-time film workshop lecturer, and a FAMU graduate. Her first film, Ďakujem ti melónik (Thank You, Little Melon) (2014), was screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the iShorts short film festival, and was shortlisted for the Magnesia Award for Best Student Film. Her subsequent film, Do zbraně (Arms Ready) (2016), was nominated for the Pavel Koutecký Award and appeared in competition sections at festivals such as One World and IDFF Jihlava. Her next work is Teorie rovnosti (Theory of Equality) (2017), in which the director mapped the current state of the debate on gender equality in the Czech Republic; audiences could see it as part of the Czech Journal series. Her experimental film Na okraji (On the Edge) (2018), which was shortlisted for the Magnesia Award for Best Student Film, deals with the Flat Earth movement in the Czech Republic. Subsequently, the director presented her original documentary film Reality (Reality), reflecting on the current housing crisis. The film's premiere took place as part of the One World 2019 festival program. In 2020, she received the Czech Lion and the Czech Film Critics' Award for the film V síti (Caught in the Net), which also became the most successful Czech documentary in history. In 2021, she completed three years of filming for Zákon lásky (The Law of Love), and in 2025, she released her film Virtuální přítelkyně (Virtual Girlfriend).
