Camila Vergara is legal and political theorist, historian, and journalist from Chile. She is a senior lecturer at the University of Essex. Her work focuses on the relationship between inequality, corruption, and the law, and explores ways of empowering ordinary people in the face of oligarchic rule and climate collapse. She is the author of Systemic Corruption: Constitutional Ideas for an Anti-Oligarchic Republic (2020) and advises civic movements and international organisations on civil and political rights. She also researches mechanisms of direct deliberative democracy.
