Jan Vitvar is a culture journalist. He spent three years as an art critic at MF DNES and two years running the culture section of the weekly Nedělní svět. He studied journalism at Charles University, and his great passions are art and sport. He has been part of the Respekt editorial team since 2006 and currently serves as head of the culture section. He is the author of Antonín Vitvar – 20 let na Jawě a Nortonu (Antonín Vitvar – 20 years riding on Jawa and Norton) (2017); David Černý – Fifty Licks (2017), a monograph about the divisive artist; and Umění, kterému nikdo nerozumí (Art No One Understands) (2021), a lighthearted collection of stories from the underworld of visual culture, in which he argues that art is far less impenetrable than it first appears.
