Martin Jemelka is a Czech historian and music publicist who specialises in the social and economic history of the 19th and 20th centuries, the history of the working class and everyday life, historical demography, regional, cultural, and religious history, and the history of the Baťa corporation. He is the author and co-author of several monographs and numerous chapters and articles in domestic and foreign publications and periodicals. His name is now firmly associated with research into the working class of Ostrava, workers' colonies, and the factory towns of the Baťa corporation. For many years, he has regularly collaborated with Czech Radio on the creation of original programs in the field of classical music. He is invited to collaborate with Czech Television, either as a publicist or expert (chief expert advisor for the film Dukla 61), or with TV NOVA (documentary series for the series Zlatá labuť (Golden Swan)).
