The IF News workshop offered 29 aspiring journalists the opportunity to take part in the festival’s media production and practice writing about key issues of today’s world. Under the guidance of mentors such as Michal Kašpárek, Vítek Svoboda, and Petr Bittner, participants worked on interviews, commentaries, and essays focused on global topics.

During the IF Morning Sessions, students held discussions with leading Czech journalists including Saša Uhlová, Josef Pazderka, and Jana Podskalská. Topics ranged from writing about culture and reflecting on social challenges to journalism centered around marginalized voices.

As part of the workshop, four texts and two videos were created, responding to topics discussed by the Inspiration Forum.

Workshop Concept

The workshop is designed for students of journalism, media studies, and related fields, who can, as part of the course Media and Documentary, expand their skills and knowledge in several directions. The course Media and Documentary offers two specialized tracks that participants can choose from:

1. Writing about Documentary Film

This track focuses on creating texts, reviews, and critiques of documentary films. Participants will get acquainted with various aspects of film criticism, learn to analyze documentaries, and develop their writing skills under the guidance of experienced instructors. The program includes lectures covering different genres of writing, such as reviews, essays, catalog annotations, and more.

2. Writing about the Contemporary World

This track allows students to meet renowned international guests of the Inspiration Forum and work on current journalistic genres. Participants will have the opportunity to produce interviews, commentary, and essays focused on global topics and contemporary issues under the guidance of leading figures of Czech journalism.

Course Structure

• Úvodní přednášky a workshopy: Seminář začíná intenzivními přednáškami a workshopy, které účastníkům poskytují teoretické základy a praktické dovednosti pro psaní v jejich zvolené specializaci a seznámí je s mnoha rovinami novinářské práce během neformálních ranních posezení s kávou s předními osobnostmi české žurnalistiky.
• Praktická část: Po úvodních přednáškách se účastníci zapojí do festivalového dění, kde budou mít možnost sledovat projekce dokumentárních filmů, účastnit se diskusí a setkávat se s významnými osobnostmi. Na základě těchto zkušeností budou pracovat na vlastních textech.
• Konzultace a analýza textů: V závěrečné části semináře se účastníci znovu setkají s lektory v malých seminárních skupinách, kde budou podrobně analyzovat své texty a dostávat zpětnou vazbu.
• Závěrečné odevzdání textů: Studující, kteří absolvují seminář jako volitelný předmět svého univerzitního rozvrhu, budou mít čas na zapracování zpětné vazby a dokončení svých textů, které následně odevzdají svému lektorovi a odpovědnému pedagogovi.
