Forecasts of the near future often speak of a fundamental transformation of the world as we know it. They predict not only rising ocean levels, mass migration of people and an increase in conflicts, but also technological developments that will lead to a transformation of economic structures. However, our society is already struggling with many of these problems. Croatian philosopher Srećko Horvat sees capitalism, which is based on the extraction of values, natural resources and human capital, as the common cause of many of them. He is convinced that the survival of humanity requires not only a radical transformation of the system, but also a transformation of our behavior. Therefore, he combines his reflections with civic and political activism. As part of the political movement DiEM25, he advocates the democratization of the European Union and an ecological agenda.
