Zuzana Piussi graduated from the Directing Department at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU). Between 1992 and 2000, she collaborated with the Stoka Theater. In her films, she addresses problematic phenomena in Slovak and Czech society; for the film Disease of the Third Power, she faced up to two years in prison and a substantial fine. She co-authored the films Peasant Common Sense (2017), Universities and Freedom (2019), and Siege of a City (2019). Her feature documentary The State Capture (2019), about democratic deficits in the post-socialist bloc, was followed by The Purge (2021) regarding the judicial crisis in Slovakia.
