On a standard world map, Africa appears smaller than it really is, and its national borders still often follow lines drawn by European powers. We will look at how cartographic distortions, the colonial legacy and borders created from afar continue to shape contemporary politics and our perceptions of the continent. Can a fairer map change more than the way we see Africa? And what would it mean to redraw not only its image, but the borders themselves?
