Some people find misinformation to be ridiculous fabrications, while others see it as the truth that others don’t want to hear. What we believe is often related to personal experience, uncertainty, a feeling of loss of control, or the conviction that we must help ourselves. Two sociologists have spoken with people from Jihlava and other European cities. They’ve investigated where the mistrust of authority comes from and how attitudes toward science, the media, and the state are changing. Radicalization usually ends in hatred, but it begins with the feeling that no one is listening. What if someone is deliberately exploiting this uncertainty?
