A crisis can strike suddenly – in the form of a blackout, flood, tornado or war. Others emerge more gradually: distrust between people deepens, society becomes increasingly divided, disinformation and manipulation spread, or the climate slowly changes. How can we recognise that a crisis is approaching? What do we need to know and be able to do when we don't know what lies ahead? What can we manage on our own, when do we need our neighbours or friends, and what should the state provide? How can we prepare for different types of crises without living in fear or trying to keep everything under control?
