How should we read Taiwan – and how should we understand it through literature? A reading by the author of Island at a Crossroads: A Literary Map of Taiwan will present a selection from nine chapters of the book, which combines a European perspective with the voices of contemporary Taiwanese authors. Through stories of everyday life, change, and tension, a picture of an island standing between tradition and modernity, between East and West, unfolds before us. The reading will show that literature can be a map that does not separate, but connects – and that understanding a different place often means learning more about the one you live in.
